Here is the job for you!
Professor in micro-nanotechnologies
Company: Université de Sherbrooke
Status: Full-time
Deadline: Wednesday, January 31st 2018
The Université de Sherbrooke is seeking applications for a position as professor at all levels in the field of microsystems and nanotechnologies, in the mechanical engineering department of the Faculty of Engineering. This is a regular position, full-time tenuretrack, located on the main campus of the University of Sherbrooke (QC, Canada).
For several years, the Université de Sherbrooke’s Faculty of Engineering and Department of Mechanical Engineering occupy an enviable position in training and applied research by providing a friendly and collaborative environment, where discovery and initiative are strongly favored. In addition, the Faculty provides a rigorous and complete training of its students and it is recognized in particular for its work-study coop program. According to an annual survey by MacLeans Magazine, the University of Sherbrooke ranks first in Canada for student satisfaction, illustrating its human dimension and the importance it holds for quality and innovative teaching.
The Université de Sherbrooke distinguishes itself from other Canadian universities in terms of technology transfer and its impact on society. It is first in Canada for the intensity of research partnerships and demonstrates the highest rate of research growth in the country in 15 years.
Sherbrooke is a university town located 150 km east of Montreal, near the US border, in an area known for its beauty and quality of life.
We offer an integrated chain of research and innovation to promote the development of micro-nanosystems with a stimulating human environment and world-class resources. The Interdisciplinary Institute for Technological Innovation forms a multidisciplinary community and offers open platforms for micro-nanofabrication and characterization of microsystems and materials, combined with laboratories for microelectronics packaging, electrical and mechanical prototyping, as well as full-scale evaluation. The Quantum Institute combines fundamental discoveries in physics andquantum computing with technologies required for their implementation. To support industrial and applied research, MiQro Innovation Collaborative Center co-founded with Teledyne DALSA and IBM offers a unique environment for industrial collaboration and transition from the laboratory to the market by offering a unique infrastructure of production-grade equipment for development and prototyping of MEMS (200mm substrates) and next-generation microelectronics packaging.
Innovation and entrepreneurship are at the heart of Université de Sherbrooke’s culture, as demonstrated by the creation of over 50 start-ups in 5 years, supported by the Accelerator for Creation of Technological Companies. This ecosystem is complemented by strategic international collaborations (UMI-LN2, international joint unit in nanotechnology and nanosystems with CNRS, France) and dynamic industrial partnerships (Industrial Research Chair with IBM Canada, Common Laboratory with STMicroelectronics, and over 40 SMEs or large corporations).
The candidates sought will therefore have a particular interest in collaborations and involvement, both in research and in teaching. The desired candidates have expertise related to micronanotechnologies, such as: nano and micro-electromechanical systems (NEMS, MEMS); nanomaterials, functional materials and metamaterials; methods for micro-nanofabrication; experimental characterization of micro-nanosystems; physics, modelling and advanced design of micro-nanosystems; encapsulation and thermomechanical integration of micronanosystems. Emerging areas are particularly sought for, including (but not limited to): Internet of Things (IoT) and information technology, robotics and human-machine interactions, energy, biomedical and microfluidics, photonics, quantum technologies, as well as challenges in manufacturing and commercialisation of microtechnologies. An interest in the development of novel applications for micro and nanotechnology as well as in taking advantage of the innovation ecosystem created by the Université de Sherbrooke would be an asset.
Candidates from industry and/or with entrepreneurship experience are welcome.
Well-established candidates from academic or industrial sectors are expected, as well as people starting their careers.
