of our mini-series dedicated to LiDAR.
Reminder : LiDAR is the abreviation of ”light detection and ranging” . At C2MI, we have everything you need to build this type of technology!
But did you know that the main part of these devices is a mirror? In fact, it is a micromirror of a few hundred micrometers made using microtechnologies or microfabrication. Microfabrication is the set of techniques allowing to produce devices with structures of the order of the micrometer and below. A distinction is made between microelectronics techniques and its derivatives, used for example for the manufacture of electronic chips and microsystems, and other techniques derived from traditional machining techniques. For microelectronics, silicon wafers are used as a substrate. The device is then structured by a succession of deposition and shaping steps using photolithography and dry or wet etching to create microstructures.

The result is a micromirror that can scan a reflective laser on its surface, the very principle of RADAR!
